Cerro Gordo literally translates as “wide ridge”, which is exactly what it is. The El Nogal Urbanization is built running North to South along the top of the Cerro Gordo ridge. The vast majority of the land on Cerro Gordo is a protected national park area. The urbanization El Nogal is recognized as one of the most exclusive residential locations on the Spanish coast east of Malaga. The beaches and coastline between the villages of Maro and La Herradura is protected national park and cannot be developed, making Urbanization El Nogal a privileged and unique residential location completely engulfed in magnificent mountain vistas and a guarantee of un-spoilt and spectacular coastal views.
This location leaves behind the clichéd images of the Costa del Sol for a rugged, yet peaceful slice of real Spain, but within easy reach of restaurants, beaches and commercial facilities. To the west of Cerro Gordo and only a 10 minute drive is the well known Spanish seaside town of Nerja. To the east, a five minute drive will take you to the Spanish seaside village of La Herradura whose promenade boasts a huge variety of chiringuitos, restaurants, bars and local nightlife. A further ten minutes along the coast and you will arrive at the Moorish influenced town of Almuñècar, with its hilltop castle. Between La Herradura and Almuñècar is the busy leisure port of Marina del Este.
Closer to ‘El Nogal’ and part of the Cerro Gordo parklands is the beach Cantarijan. ‘Playa de Cantarijan’ is a naturist beach but clothing is optional. The beach also boasts two excellent restaurants La Bola Marina and La Barraca that are open all year round. Cerro Gordo’s finest dining experience has to be the Restaurant El Mirador (insert link to website) located at the Mirador lookout tower the restaurant boasts spectacular view in both directions as well as serving an International menu that is highly commended.
Cerro Gordo sits on the boarder of the Costa del Sol and the Costa Tropical in the province of Granada. It is easily accessed from both Malaga airport (45 minutes drive) and Granada airport (65 minutes drive). It is in a spectacular location for accessing the sites of Andalusia; the Alhambra Palace in Granada, The Mosquito of Cordoba, the Alcazar in Seville and Picasso museum in Malaga are all within a few hours drive.
Even more locally you can soak up the white washed villages famous to Andalusia; or the Alpujarra mountains, home of serrano jamon; as well as the exotic animal reserve Pena Escrita due north of Cerro Gordo; and of course Cerro Gordo is in one of those unique locations where you can be skiing in the morning and on the beach in the afternoon. The Sierra Nevada mountains are only 75 minutes drive, as one of Spain’s most popular ski resorts, Cerro Gordo is ideal for daytrips to the snow.
Cerro Gordo and in particularly the Urbanization of El Nogal provides you with a unique costal property location that will inspire you daily, but offers the benefits of being a part of an exclusive community of owners.
